CHANGE OF REGISTERED AGENT

Order total: $175

All businesses are required to designate a registered agent when registering. A registered agent is an individual or business selected to be the official recipient of important legal documents on behalf of a business entity.

Reasons that you might need a change of registered agent:

  • In the formation rush, you designated yourself as your own registered agent (which we don't typically recommend).
  • You're expanding your business to another state.
  • Things aren't working out with your existing registered agent service.
  • An individual acting as your registered agent is moving out of state.

How Do I Change a Registered Agent?

To change your registered agent, you will need to fill out a form for your state (or other listed forms if required) and send them in along with any required fee. The forms used to process your order, the processing fee and information needed varies by state, so it’s crucial to adhere to the specific requirements listed by your Secretary of State.

What if I Don’t Report a Change in Registered Agents?

All LLCs and corporations are required to designate a registered agent when they file with their Secretary of State. Failing to do so will cause you to fall out of good standing with the state and receive fines.

You'll also face fines if you change your registered agent without notifying the Secretary of State, and may be subject to revocation of your business license, your right to enter into legal contracts and your access to the state court system.
